On Your Own | $120 - $150 (approx.)
There is so much already included, but there are still the little things. There are a couple of days where you might want to get lunch with your friends, or maybe take a ride on the subway with one of the chaperones and some fellow senior-explorers. Then, of course, you are going to want a little tchotchke (souvenir) from some of the places you visit. The little things add up. However...if you are a big shopper, you will certainly want to adjust how much spending money you bring. Nobody knows you better than, well, you. But please keep in mind, there is no need to break the bank, either! |

Mr. Tony Gettler | Trip Coordinator / Chaperone
Location: Aboard the ferry to Ellis Island , New York City
|
Mr. Gettler has chaperoned the NYC senior trip each year since 2014 and has been the Trip Coordinator since the 2017 trip. In addition to the senior trip, he has been to NYC several times on his own. His travels also include many destinations beyond the Big Apple. Some locations include both domestic (Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Anchorage, Miami) and around the globe (from hiking the Inca Trail in Peru to spending the night on the Great Wall of China). Through his travels, he has become experienced with navigating major cities on foot as well as by their public transit systems - even ones in foreign languages ☺. Mr. Gettler is the "go-to-guy" for travel tips and safety. Both before and during the trip, he will provide the participants with simple strategies to help make their trip more comfortable...and safe.
The world is a book and those who do not travel read but only one page. (VISIT HIS TRAVEL WEBSITE.) |
Mr. Steve Thompson | ChaperonE
Location: Jerusalem, Israel overlooking the Doom of the Rock and the Western Wall.
|
Mr. Thompson will be joining us for the 2023 Senior Trip! His travel knowledge and enthusiasm for sharing experiences with the seniors will make him a valuable member of our chaperone team!
"I've been to 37 countries, Italy is my favorite...6 continents but America still has my heart. I've been to New York City 3 times and each time is different than the last. As with any red-blooded American, I am looking forward to seeing Ground Zero again." |
Mrs. Bernadette Wayne | Chaperone
Location: San Francisco Bay Area (Sausalito side of the Bay)
|
We are happy to welcome Ms. Wayne to our chaperone team as a returning member! She first chaperoned the NYC Senior Trip in 2013 after which she was the trip coordinator until 2016 when she was ready to pass the torch. While at the helm, she had a big part to play in creating the amazing trip we have today. Excited to see how her trip has grown over the years, Mrs. Wayne will be a tremendous source of NYC experience and enthusiasm. She is originally from Illinois (the "s" is silent) where, Chicago was a home-away-from-home, and she has also traveled domestically to other areas including St. Louis, Boston, the Twin Cities, San Francisco, another trip to NYC, and most recently Washington D.C. Right after graduating college she dipped her toe abroad when she had the opportunity to live in town and learn from teachers in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica (home to Bob Marley). Her favorite part of traveling is learning from and mingling with the locals to experience the culture, food, and beauty of the area through the eyes of the people who call it home. This mindset while traveling resulted in lots of walking, local transit, talking with anyone from fellow bus riders to small business owners, and stepping slightly out of her comfort zone while also being smart about safety. She is excited to make a return with students and to share these tips throughout both the preparation and real-time stages of the trip!
